About Belleweather Finish |
|
Our business is making
garden buildings which sit well in gardens among trees and shrubs. Although the buildings are brand new, the style and finish are all about avoiding a brash new look which doesn’t harmonise easily in a garden. Nowhere does the newness show up so strongly as newly varnished tongued and grooved floorboards. For this reason, the Belleweather approach is to use 3 totally different varnish stains giving the ‘broken varnish’ equivalent of broken colour, which in turn harmonises with broken colour or distressed paint. Even where we use resin composite finishes, say on the glazing bars and window frames for their superb weathering properties, we leave as much of the original knots, blemishes, woodgrain etc. as possible to emphasise the essential handcrafted nature of our work. When choosing a colour scheme for the interior, customers have the option to go for a conventional paint finish, which will show the shape of the planking or select one of the modern woodwashes/colourwashes which colour the surface but leave the natural beauty of the wood showing through. For greater information on paint finishes there is a wonderful book by Jocasta Innes, called The New Paint Magic, one of the most widely read and influential decorating books written, which became the standard reference book for amateurs and professionals alike. |
